Lubaina Himid at TATE Modern

Photos and quick sketches from the Lubaina Himid exhibition at the Tate Modern. Specifically looking into her use of text and bold, vibrant colour palette. I think one thing that really struck me about Himid's work and exhibition was the vibrancy of her colours and in person alongside the large scale she woks with it creates awe-inspiring work which cannot be ignored or missed. I also loved the mix of colours which would usually seem to clash but Himid somehow made them work together in harmony with each one bringing out the other and visa versa. Her use of text made the audience question things they might not have questioned previously. My favourite quote taken from her exhibition was: ' We live in clothes, we live in buildings - do they fit us?' I think this made me question how and where we fit into society. It also inspired me for my FMP to look into using more text and not only statements but also questions.
