Tell Me Why I Crave You

The process of creating this piece was extremely difficult as I came to many creative blocks throughout. I first began with the idea of using a lime as the focal point of the painting but then decided that the green was off and to me it seemed tacky and also a bit too pop arty and it just didn't feel right so I then painted over it.

After painting over it I created a collage on photoshop covering one of the black and white photos from my shoot with this vintage salmon wrap which I think worked perfectly as a collage but when I then started to translate it into a painting it just didn't work. I think this was also mainly due to the enormous scale of the piece so there just didn't seem to be enough detail and the vintage look that comes across in the collage didn't translate when painted. So after careful consideration I then decided to re paint over the canvas...again.

After two failed attempts I then realised that the reason the past two attempts had failed was due to the fact I was over thinking the piece completely and overplanning. I need to just go with what felt right and slot everything together like i had done with my two previous pieces. So I stated with a base of green and then decided to add in blue and I wanted to get across a cloud sort of feeling but it didn't turn out how I had originally expected however, I liked the addition of the blue so I went over the clouds with a mix of white and blue and made the clouds less literal. The main basis for this piece was a collage that I had made previously and had incorporated tomatoes so I wanted to use that and I think what my main aim with the tomatoes was to create a sense of juiciness of roundness which you see in the 17th century still lives and especially the ones I saw at the Wallace Collection.
